These lyric fragments trace loss and fissure, sniffing out the grief/pleasure of whatever it is that exists and cannot find itself. Oxidized smear on a mirror, the tiniest bloodstained stitches, the day’s honeyed warmth evaporating into sunlight. These poems savor all the little failures. They are a memorial to what is only here by subtraction.

Elizabeth Robinson’s most recent book of poems is Vulnerability Index from Northwestern University Press. It has been a finalist for the Indies Forward Prize and the Big Other Prize. In late 2026, Solid Objects will publish her collection Being Modernists Together. Robinson’s work was included in the 2023 Pushcart Prize Annual and the 2025 Best American Poetry. A winner of the National Poetry Series and the Fence Modern Poets Prize, Robinson has also been awarded grants from the Fund for Poetry and the Foundation for Contemporary Arts.
