SIDEWALK SIDEWALK
After Speech Test by Ana Mendieta

haze hangs over our worn down sidewalks

cartography of the masses leave
impressions of many feet & circadian rhythms

concrete buckles / sinkholes molten & vast seek to swallow
each scream, ceramic, PVC, highly registered disaster
our routines continue, uninterrupted

sidewalks are the palm of the city

time worn in by rubber, stilettos
rain like bullets, actual bullets, UV airspace

a pool of blood, hot volume, expands
through door’s gap onto sidewalk
focal scar, depressed skull fracture

the violence of the interior
erode boundary between sand & wave, future glass
the patterns of navigation build our memory against news cycle flicker

point by point, light pours out onto sidewalk
neon, incandescent, lantern, crackle
at times, i forgot my direction & forged on

i let the xray unfurl
jaw hinge lets light in
creaks open for aaaaa

once physical, transmuted digital, waves to bytes, periodic
soft flesh counter to stable sidewalk aggregate
swallow syllables whole, from a whisper to a scream, staccato
